5 Tips On Preserving Your Rattan Wicker Furniture

Tips for Caring for Rattan Furniture

Rattan wicker patio furniture is a light, durable furniture made for strong weather conditions. For routine cleaning of your rattan wicker outdoor furniture, brush off or vacuum as much of the surface dirt as you can. Then wash it with a soft brush and soapy water to which you've added a small amount of soup. Dust it gently with a feather duster when you notice dust, or vacuum it with an upholstery brush attachment for the main surfaces and a crevice tool for deep, hard-to-reach areas.

A slightly damp, soft cloth wiped over the rattan gives it a general cleaning, while a bit of oil soap mixed into water, rubbed onto the furniture with a toothbrush, helps clean those stubborn spots. When you use moisture to clean rattan, dry out the piece in a well-ventilated area so it does not stay wet long.

5 easy steps

  1. Use a handheld vacuum or a brush attachment to remove loose dust and soil
  2. Use a soft toothbrush or any other fine tool to remove stubborn soil or debris
  3. Using a bowl of warm, soapy water or a garden hose, remove all soil and debris and scrub thoroughly
  4. Collect only the bubbles with a soft cloth and wash the rattan surface with this
  5. Use a toothbrush to apply the bubbles to cracks and crevices

Keep It just right

Care should be taken to keep the outdoor furniture dry as moisture can easily lead to mildew.

You might also want to keep it away from too much sun exposure as that can sometimes cause splintering in certain types of wicker. A large umbrella can help, or placing the furniture in a protected location can help it retain its looks.
